What is the Future of Art & what technologies are connecting it to a new generation of Collectors

Columbia Business School Alumni Club, David Zwirner Platform and Art Crossing, in a joint program, will host a panel discussion about the future of art and what technologies are being used to connect it to the new generation of collectors.

The panel will be moderated by Bettina Huang, General Manager and Head of Platform David Zwirner and Viktoria Prigarina, CBSAC Board Member, General Manager of art crossing and will feature Lucas Zwirner, who heads digital and editorial projects at David Zwirner, Orta Therox, engineer and designer, Wayee Chu, General Partner at Reach Capital, Board of Trustees of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and Azareen Van der Vliet Oloomi, an Iranian-American award-winning writer (PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction for 2019 and the John Gardner Award) and avid art collector.

This will be a dynamic conversation, with some of the most informed and diverse perspectives about art collecting and will provide insights about the most exciting art being created today and about how a broader audience can access, buy, and live with it. Q&A will follow the panel discussion.

  • Bettina Huang
    Bettina Huang is the GM & Head of Platform. Bettina brings over a decade of entrepreneurial and start-up experience at the intersection of technology and culture. A previous founder herself, Bettina has held leadership roles in various early stage companies. With a long-held passion for art, including early professional experience at Christie's, Bettina has integrated that passion with her experience in technology to create Platform. She received her B.A. from Brown University with a major in the History of Art and her M.B.A. from New York University Leonard N. Stern School of Business with a specialization in Entrepreneurship & Innovation and Finance.
  • Viktoria Prigarina
    Viktoria Prigarina is the Founder of ArtCrossing.io and a member of the Columbia Business School Alumni Club Board of Directors. 

    She started her finance career at Morgan Stanley, followed by options trading and structuring at Barclays Capital and Deutsche Bank. 

    Viktoria has also lived and worked in Brazil where she launched a capital raising platform and was the head of marketing and investor relations for what is now a $15 billion hedge fund—SPX Capital and has served as a Member of the Investment Committee. 

    She holds a Master’s degree in Mathematics of Finance from Columbia University and a B.B.A. with concentrations in finance and comparative literature and minor in Latin American Studies from Baruch College. 

    Viktoria has been passionate about the arts throughout her life, has pioneered the Art Market Symposia for CBSAC and founded ArtCrossing.io—a forum where art market professionals, collectors, and art enthusiasts come together to discuss the most pertinent topics in today’s art market.
  • Lucas Zwirner
    Lucas Zwirner oversees all digital and editorial projects, including the gallery's online platforms and its publishing house. He has spearheaded initiatives that deepen conversations around art through online presentations and sales, podcasts, video, web content, public programming, strategic partnerships, and books. He has led some of the gallery's most successful online initiatives. He is also the host of Dialogues: The David Zwirner Podcast, a program about artists and the way they think. He graduated summa cum laude from Yale with a B.A. in philosophy and literature.
  • Orta Therox
    Orta Therox is an engineer on the programming language TypeScript at Microsoft, prior to that he worked on all sorts of art-world projects at Artsy over 8 years across all user-facing platforms and helped run a few one-off special offshoots like VR/AR.
  • Wayee Chu
    Wayee Chu is a General Partner at Reach Capital, a venture fund focused on early stage education technology start-ups. Prior to Reach, Wayee was the co-founder of the NewSchools Seed Fund, where she focused on sourcing and supporting early stage education technology entrepreneurs. Wayee currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and co-chairs the Education and Public Practice committee at the museum. She and her husband are passionate about supporting living artists who are able to speak to the questions of our time and seek narratives with a cultural responsiveness to the past while foregrounding issues that we face in contemporary society.
  • Azareen Van der Vliet Oloomi
    Azareen Van der Vliet Oloomi is an award-winning Iranian-American writer. Her novel SAVAGE TONGUES will be released on August 3rd from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. CALL ME ZEBRA, her novel of art and exile, won the 2019 PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction, the John Gardner Award, and was longlisted for the PEN Open Book Award. She has lived in Spain, Italy, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates and currently lives in Chicago.
